Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
I looked in the mirror and saw truth behind all the lies.
The truth was that I’ve been producing waste recklessly and not worrying about the dire consequences which were threatening the balance for sustainability of nature and humans all together. Like buying new pair of shoes when I didn’t even need any, throwing away reusable materials, upgrading phones more often and wasting food.
Then I realized that my mother, who was always strict about wasting food and not shy to reuse almost everything in some manner, was right all along. When I was a teenager those habits seemed very “uncool” to me for all the wrong reasons. And the media content I was consuming wasn’t helping either.
This is for anybody who might feel the same way how i felt then. We can stop seeing things from a hole and turn our heads this time. Lets give it a nice shake and wake ourselves up. Shrug off all the distractions of current times to focus on what we’ve been ignoring. Being a consumer is as responsible as the leaders of the world.
Few small questions now will lead to big changes. Read about how things as common as cotton shirts can impact the world resources. Demand for facts. Time for Ethical buying is now.
Sustainable Development Goals are created as basic guidelines to achieve better future than the one we are heading into. Each goal has it’s own targets to create action. Here are the targets for GOAL 12 – Responsible Consumption And Production
- Targets
- Resources

Target 12.4
By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.

Target 12.C
Rationalize inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption by removing market distortions, in accordance with national circumstances, including by restructuring taxation and phasing out those harmful subsidies, where they exist, to reflect their environmental impacts, taking fully into account the specific needs and conditions of developing countries and minimizing the possible adverse impacts on their development in a manner that protects the poor and the affected communities.
